You are seeing the covers of a needle guard.
embroidery that adorns called "solid edges" covers the subject and background. Is made to "launch point" and "half cross stitch, on canvas. To do this I used wool.
This is the top cover.

If you look, you can see that the needles are pinned to a piece made by crochet, with wool to use for embroidering caps.

The pages of this book are twofold.
One of cardboard, on which I wrote the notes that I believed needed to differentiate the needles. Are numbered, also used as separators.
And the others are black felt, used to puncture the different kinds of needles:
